Signs of Caregiver Stress

Caregiving is rewarding but it offers challenges as well. Most likely a family caregiver is on call 24/7 with little to no assistance which often leads to stress. Caregiver stress may express itself in an emotional or physical form. Signs and symptoms are :

  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Feeling tired or so exhausted that it becomes difficult to manage daily tasks
  • Irritable or easily angered
  • Frequent headaches or body aches
  • Resentment or angry with your loved one
  • Weight loss or gain due to not eating or over eating
  • Feeling anxious
  • Feeling isolated
  • Loss of interest in your usual activities

Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your loved one. It may be hard to admit that you need help. It’s understandable. Think about how hard it must have been for your loved one to admit that they needed help at home. Respite, part time, or full time, caregivers may be the change that you need and when you are ready we are here to help.
